Harrismith Road
Private Client

This 1970s house was in need of a complete update as it was poorly insulated, dark, with condensation issues. The clients have a large family and wanted the property extended to the front, side and rear, with an extra storey on top. The ground floor extensions help provide a new entrance to the street and enclose the courtyard garden. They have green sedum roofs to help improve both ecology and the view when when looked down on from above. The building has been over-clad in light buff bricks, sympathetic to the stone locally, with a Zinc standing-seam roof to the extra storey above. The design is unashamedly contemporary, with highly glazed East and West facades, roof-lights to let daylight into the interior and help providing the house with a completely new identity which contributes to the street rather than letting it down.

The house was designed using BIM to provide the client with a number of different options, using the 3D modelling to provide them a with a clear idea of what the final design would look like. The new design is much more sustainable than the original with high levels if insulation and improved ventilation and windows, with things like cycle storage, recycling and future adaptation considered in the design.

"You have given us exactly what we wanted when we first met you and discussed the brief - a comfortable, modern family home, a well designed and providing moments of delight. We appreciate the time and consideration that you have given to the design of our home."
