Sustainable, RIBA award winning offices whilst at Holder Mathias. The original brief was to create a timeless piece of outstanding architecture. Following the taking of a detailed brief for the 600 staff who were being relocated from a single floor in the centre of Cardiff, we were tasked with coming up with a striking building that would form a new home for this Dutch owned company and be one of the first major occupiers in the newly emerging Cardiff Bay. After an intensive design process, the commission was secured and the building went on to win many accolades including an RIBA award. The design featured regular office plates wrapped around an open atrium affording views of the Bay from all parts of the building. Groundbreaking displacement ventilation and chilled beams confirmed the buildings sustainable credentials and the panoramic lifts and open stairs within the open atrium have helped to recreate the connectivity between the different departments, an essential part fo the original brief.
